Aging and My Mid-Life Crisis

I can't believe that I am now 40. It sounds SO OLD. But I don't feel like I should be THAT old. Its depressing. I think I'm having a harder time accepting this then I did for when I turned 30.

It's scary. To be frank and a little macabre, you have to start planning for end of life stuff. There is a lot I have yet to do with my life. But to be planning old people stuff, its scary.

How much longer am I going to live? How can I do this the healthiest that I possibly can? Should I buy life insurance for my other half and I? How can I increase our retirement savings. (Going on a cruise a couple times a year is not helping with that savings.) At what age should I sign up for AARP?

I had one friend die of Pancreatic cancer this past year. It hit him hard and sadly fast. I had another friend in November pass due to complications with pneumonia and his diabetes. I seen him in the store a week or two before he passed and he was out of it. I googled both their names when I did n…

Little Specks

Today, Boise has a change in weather.
Cold and wet.

I headed out for a slog. After fueling with 2 cups of coffee - if I would have ate anything, I would have came up with more excuses at why I should not go. I headed out layering with a tight tank, a Nike running jacket I am going to wear in Seattle, Pearl Izumi fleece lined pants, a wool beanie, and Black Diamond gloves that I wear all the time.

Went I went out the door, there was not snow, but a drizzle of heavy raindrops.

See, the ground is wet.

I did just over 2 miles around my neighborhood. I figured, hey, this will be what Seattle is like. Cold and wet. So I sucked it up and kept on with my slog.

Just as soon as I got to the end of my block, it started to snow. Little specks of sadness. I have to work outside in this tonight. Looks like I will be taking my Patagonia fleece thermals with me tonight. Breaking out all the winter gear today.
Those little dots are snow. Wet, cold, snow.

Mr. Garmin says 2.4 miles with an 11:48 average pace.

What do you wear on a cold, wet run? Do you have any favorite gear suggestions for running outside when it is wet and cold?
