Who Ordered This Summer?

Yes. This is a weather whine.

I attempted a Tablerock hike. I woke up early (11am is early for me because of my crappy work schedule) and was out the door and at Tablerock before Noon.

Aw man. I didn't even make it to the top.

I was close to the top, but the heat sucked the life out of me (it was only in the 90's but expected to be 106 today) and all of the smoke in the air burned my lungs and throat.

I don't know where the fire is, but the smoke was worse when I came home last night.

This was only after 2 miles. My face is still red after being indoors for an hour.  And yes, I wore white and had my Camelbak on with me.

Funny how no one is out on the trail. 2 people going up when I was headed down. I don't know how I did anything in the heat last year. Oh, wait, yes I do. I was on the treadmill most of last summer. I guess I am going to have to suck it up and hop on the 'mills again. Or somehow learn to love the heat and suffer outside.

Where are you running in the summer? Indoors or out? How is the weather where you are?

  1. I'm utterly impressed that you would even attempt to hike/run to Table Rock in the middle of the day with that type of heat. Go you!

I hate running outside when it is over 65 which is a bit of a problem come summertime. I compromise by running in weather up to 92 or so as long as it is early morning (as in outside no later than 5:30-6 am). Basically summer running is just painful whether due to heat or early wake ups. I used to run on treadmills more but I can't stomach it for more than 6 miles now. Generally I run through my neighborhood seeking paths with shady trees for short runs and to/up dirt/rock trails in the hills on longer ones. Where I used to live, I ran country roads more but now it's pavement or dirt.
