Teton Dam Marathon Review

On the 2nd of June, I woke up at 4am to make a 3 hour drive to eastern Idaho for the Teton Dam Marathon. I did the 5K.

Did I mention I woke up at 4am to make a 3 hour drive. Yeah, not the best idea for legs to be in PR shape. My leggies were stiff and at 1100 more feet of elevation then at home, it was a slow trot for sure. No PR attempt this trot, that's for sure.

I woke up at 4am (my normal wake up time is 8am - 10am depending on the day) so that early is  painful. I had everything all packed and ready the evening before- brekky, post-race clothes, snacks, and a full tank of gas for the long drive. All I had to do was make coffee and head out. I didn't even brush my teeth before I left. Coffee first.

The drive was nice and not a lot of traffic for a Saturday morning. I don't know the last time I have been to Rexburg, but it was easy to find the race start. I thought the race started at 8am, but that was the 10K. The 5K started at 8:30am and I got there to get my bib at …

Just A Typical Friday Night

Today is the day before race day. I actually have nerves going on. Not as bad as I did before Robie Creek, but I am a little ADD today.

2 cups of coffee as my morning fuel (didn't eat anything) and decided to hit the track. Oh, I guess there was something about the Olympics having some track thing going on today? What? I have not heard anything about it? /sarcasm) I was a little on the hyper side. 3.1 miles down in 34 minutes! Garmin says it was 33:something but it is cool. I'll take it.

Then I refueled with Extreme Pizza. Not as good as Cassanovas but I will nom it.

I picked up my race "packet" for the race I will be doing tomorrow. They had Hammer Gels for everyone. Huckleberry? Yes! There was also tropical but I like the huckleberry. I plan on taking 1 Accel gel during the race.

Lucky number 68. If my confidence level today is anything like how I felt in Stanley, I will place 3rd from last again. Goal is under 2 hours. We will see how that goes.

I wanted an iced mocha before my 4 hour shift at work tonight but decided to nix that idea. I am still a little hyper and ADD. Do I need sugar AND caffeine? Eh, no. I decided to pick up vodka for a chocolate martini pre-race nightcap. Sugar and a downer instead.

Chocolate Martini -

3oz Vodka, 3oz Chocolate Vodka (I used 360 Vodka) poured into shaker of ice. Add a splash, or not if you want, of half & half. Shake. Strain into chilled martini glass with chocolate syrup swirled on inside of glass. Mine above is stemless. Serve and sip with a smile. :-)

Night everyone!

  1. I love that vodka! You can just sip it plain and it is great. One of my girlfriends used to own a liquor store and she said that it was really popular.

    1. Whatever they did, they did it right. Which can be a bad thing. It is too good!
