Aging and My Mid-Life Crisis

I can't believe that I am now 40. It sounds SO OLD. But I don't feel like I should be THAT old. Its depressing. I think I'm having a harder time accepting this then I did for when I turned 30.

It's scary. To be frank and a little macabre, you have to start planning for end of life stuff. There is a lot I have yet to do with my life. But to be planning old people stuff, its scary.

How much longer am I going to live? How can I do this the healthiest that I possibly can? Should I buy life insurance for my other half and I? How can I increase our retirement savings. (Going on a cruise a couple times a year is not helping with that savings.) At what age should I sign up for AARP?

I had one friend die of Pancreatic cancer this past year. It hit him hard and sadly fast. I had another friend in November pass due to complications with pneumonia and his diabetes. I seen him in the store a week or two before he passed and he was out of it. I googled both their names when I did n…

LBR's and Fooding

I love my bike. I have had my bike since 1999 and I love it. When I met the new boy in 2005 (truthfully, he isn't all that new to me but new to all you. Anyways, another post...) he biked more then I did. He never drove anywhere and would bike from Boise to Caldwell and back like it was nothing.
For the non-locals
He made me OK with not driving around just to go down the street and back.

Anyways, side tracked here but he isn't afraid of Long Bike Rides. He likes his bike rides with more of a purpose, errands and the such. I like mine to usually be just the workout. I wanted to do something fun for the long holiday weekend.

I made him take a LBR (long bike ride) with me and have a picnic.

That bike would be perfect picnic bike for me!

I really enjoying riding the whole greenbelt. I like that the further you get in either direction, the less people that there is.

I packed some random things to eat. I made a huge turkey wrap, some drinks and... baby food.

It seriously bothered me to eat baby food, but the boy convinced me that its all health. It's all real food.

Look at the ingredients. Apple, carrots, pineapple, water... nothing bad at all. I tried it and I am ok with this particular one.

But this one...ugh. I can see why babies are unhappy eating some of this stuff.

It tasted like eating a raw potato. No salt, nothing.  I'll pass. The ingredient list IS pretty attractive!

After I was fueled by this randomness, we biked back home. I found this biking down Broadway, across from BSU.

Yay! But sadly, or not so sadly, the pizza canceled out all of the health I ate earlier. So worth it though.

Baby food - have you tried it? Favorite pizza? What is the longest bike ride you have done?

  1. This is like THE weekend for cycling. I did a 15 mile ride today -- not hugely long, but hilly, and the longest I've ridden in a while. I've totally been contemplating baby food, the fruit flavors in particular. I LOVE Power Bar's Performance Energy Blends (e.g., which are basically just like baby food -- pureed fruits with some additional sugar and vitamins. But baby food is super cheap compared to the Power Bar packets. You have just convinced me to try a few packets of baby food! :)

    1. The fruit blend baby food was really good. The veggies, not so much. This weekend has been perfect for biking!
