Aging and My Mid-Life Crisis

I can't believe that I am now 40. It sounds SO OLD. But I don't feel like I should be THAT old. Its depressing. I think I'm having a harder time accepting this then I did for when I turned 30.

It's scary. To be frank and a little macabre, you have to start planning for end of life stuff. There is a lot I have yet to do with my life. But to be planning old people stuff, its scary.

How much longer am I going to live? How can I do this the healthiest that I possibly can? Should I buy life insurance for my other half and I? How can I increase our retirement savings. (Going on a cruise a couple times a year is not helping with that savings.) At what age should I sign up for AARP?

I had one friend die of Pancreatic cancer this past year. It hit him hard and sadly fast. I had another friend in November pass due to complications with pneumonia and his diabetes. I seen him in the store a week or two before he passed and he was out of it. I googled both their names when I did n…

It's the BF's Turn To Race!

This post is sponsored by FitFluential and the Men's Health Urbanathlon. I received no other compensation other then a free race entry.

For the past week I have had a mildly cranky BF.

Hissing at me and everything just like that. I told him I was going to sign him up for races and we were going to cross the finish line of some race holding hands.

Pic from here

I sorta got this reaction...

Well, no smacking or scratching but there was some grumbling, and hissing and a mention of how its dumb.

WELL... I told him it's gonna happen. I did get word last week that thanks to my connections at FitFluential, he gets to run in the Men's Health Urbanathlon. Although we won't be holding hands, it's the start of our future of running races together!

We have not got to go on a vacation this year and I thought this would be perfect! Going to San Fran in November!

In 2014, Men’s Health is returning with our 9th annual URBANATHLON series, celebrating the Men’s Health work hard, play hard mentality. The URBANATHLON challenges competitors—or more accurately, flat-out dares them—to set new personal standards for what it means to be fit.
Whether you are taking on the classic distance or all NEW sprint distance course, the URBANATHLON is the ultimate test of endurance, strength, mobility and pure toughness. Post race, the excitement continues at the Men’s Health URBANATHLON Festival, with DJ sets, food and drink, and tons of stuff from our sponsors to demo, sample, and take home.

I know he is more fit, physically stronger then I am and he has a little bit more of a mental toughness then I do. So we are starting the run training portion a little slower this week. He fell in the attic and might of bruised a rib so I am forcing him to run easy. We signed him up for the Sprint distance since this is his very first race - although he ran the mile in Cross Country in High School - that was a long time ago! The Sprint Distance seems doable for a beginner.

San Fran course
The Classic at 11 miles and 15 obstacles appears more challenging!

It has been nice having him run with me instead of biking next to me. He is faster and wants me to get faster so I can place in races.

Since he wants me to place in a race, I signed him up for a Halloween themed race in a couple of weeks. So far, there are only 4 runners signed up, so our chances of placing are good!

Will I see you at the Men's Health Urbanathlon in San Fran? If you are interested in signing up your significant other or yourself, you can use code FIT for 20% off. You can register here.
